NASCAR PEAK Antifreeze Series Tuesday!

Written by DavidP - Mon, 20 Apr 2015 08:00:49 +0000

Watch more than 40 of the world’s best sim racers take the green flag Tuesday on in Round Five of the 2015 NASCAR PEAK Antifreeze Series at Richmond International Raceway.  World champions Ray Alfalla, Tyler Hudson and Michael Conti will battle points leaders Kenny Humpe and Chad J Laughton in a 200 lap online race broadcast Tuesday at 8:45 PM eastern (00:45 GMT Wednesday). NASCAR Peak Antifreeze Series drivers raced their way into the series by besting nearly 60,000 fellow sim racers in NASCAR-sanctioned online competition. They proved they are the best by consistently beating the top online racers in NASCAR Camping World Trucks, Xfinity Series and Sprint Cup cars, and now they race for a NASCAR championship that includes more than $10,000 in prize money, a NASCAR trophy [...]

Texas Tire Management

Written by DavidP - Fri, 17 Apr 2015 22:54:37 +0000

Week 6 of the 2015 NASCAR iRacing Series Open takes us back out to the western United States: Texas Motor Speedway! Texas has always been a track where I have struggled to finish well; in fact my best result here last year was only 12th. However, I always try to look at each week positively, so I aimed for my first top ten at this 1.5 mile race track. One thing that is crucial to getting the maximum amount of speed out of your car at Texas is balanced handling. You must have a very neutral feeling race car at this track; too loose and you’ll slide into the fence off the corners; too tight and you’ll plow to the wall and/or kill your tires. Saving your tires is also [...]

O’donnell’s Miracle at the Cathedral of Speed

Written by camstark - Thu, 16 Apr 2015 22:43:44 +0000

The Pro Mazdas were backing in action for Week 4 of the iRacing season. This time they would head to the south of Europe, albeit the north of Italy to take on one of the most famous race tracks in the entire world: Autodromo Nazionale Monza, otherwise known as the Cathedral of Speed! The 11 turn – 5.793km – circuit would have drivers (and spectators) on the edge of their seats for the entire race. With the whole track being flowing and no clear cut slow sections – with the exception of Variante del Rettifilo – the Pro Mazda drivers would certainly be looking to work the high speed drafting to their advantage. As the slowest corner on the circuit, the Rettifilo figured to offer one of the more ideal overtaking [...]

Be Prepared

Written by DavidP - Thu, 16 Apr 2015 08:00:50 +0000

Editor’s note:  Oswaldo Negri, Jr’s name should be familiar to iRacers.  Apart from being a long-time member of iRacing, he’s been a mainstay of Michael Shank Racing since 2004 and has a win and a couple of pole positions in the Rolex 24 at Daytona to show for his efforts.  This year finds “Ozz” doing double duty, driving for Shank in the IMSA Tudor United Sportscar Championship and joining Krohn Racing for the European Le Mans Series.  He took some time off from his busy schedule to recount his debut with Krohn Racing at Silverstone last weekend. Throughout my career, whenever I have gone to a race I’ve tried to do everything possible to make sure I am prepared.  Not only is good preparation the mark of a professional, it [...]

Huttu Tops Road America

Written by DavidP - Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:55:27 +0000

The last time Greger Huttu scored a win in the World Championship Grand Prix Series before drivers headed to Road America for Round Four of the 2015 Championship was the 2nd of August 2014. That’s 252 days that one of the greatest sim racers of all time had been away from the top step of the podium, and after seeing new Team Redline stablemate Aleksi Uusi-Jaakkola score victory in the first two races, followed by Coanda Simsports’ Mitchell DeJong taking the spoils in Round Three, finally, the Flying Finn was able to return to victory lane, for the 45th time in his World Championship career. Qualifying was a crazy affair, as the strong southerly winds played havoc with the handling of the 38 drivers who secure a starting spot. [...]

From Online to On-Track Competition, Byron Quickly Finds Success

Written by DavidP - Mon, 13 Apr 2015 21:00:43 +0000

Stock car racing first caught William Byron’s attention at age 6 when he was channel surfing on his family’s TV, but it was iRacing on his computer that eventually led him to on-track competition. Today, the 17-year-old Byron is driving for two Mooresville-based teams: HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks in NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series East, where he’s vying for the series title and rookie honors, and JR Motorsports in the late model ranks. Iberica Racing Wins Silverstone STC

Written by DavidP - Mon, 13 Apr 2015 15:30:56 +0000

The first round of the STC started at Silverstone Historical. The famous UK circuit is the fastest configuration hosted by the STC. After dominating the practice and having covered a distance of 5.057km with a qualifying time of 1:38.567, Jesus Sicilia (Iberica) had to sweat to bring home the first victory against a fierce Ben Tusting (Movie-go). Indeed, on the finish line Tusting closed the race with only 0.724 sec. behind the winner. Tusting started from the third position after setting a qualifying time of 1:38.926, v0ery close to the time of second fastest qualifier position of Jose Vegara (Odox) 1:38.925.  Tusting had a good start, passing Vegara in the first corner. He was able to close immediately the gap with Sicilia following him for the whole race until the [...]

From A Dig Motorsports’ “Tough Trucks” – Hot ‘lanta!

Written by DavidP - Mon, 13 Apr 2015 14:45:27 +0000

Ah… It feels good to be back on American virtual soil!  After last week’s silliness at Monza, the traditional 1.54-mile racetrack located in the heart of “The Peach State” was a welcome site for the entire organization of From A Dig Motorsports.  Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of the toughest tracks on the NASCAR circuit.  Not only does is challenge a driver’s aggression, it also requires an abundance of finesse due to its aging surface.  In 1997 AMS saw a complete reconfiguration.  The facility was updated, the front-stretch and back-stretch were swapped, new pavement was laid down, and the track was now touted as a quad-oval.  The renovations made the racetrack one of the fastest on the schedule and this still holds true today. However, 18 long years of brutal [...]

Danielius Dirmeitis was born in the small town of Kretinga, Lithuania, but there is nothing small about the talent of this iRacer. In less than a week, he will celebrate his 22nd birthday and in 15 days, he will celebrate his two year anniversary on iRacing. His first 715 days on iRacing have been impressive to say the least. Cheap Shots and Fuel-Cells

Written by Paul Slavonik - Fri, 10 Apr 2015 22:10:01 +0000

The V8 Supercars Americas debut at Monza was full of fireworks along with a lone sucker punch. It’s always a special time for the members of when a new track is released to the service. More than being able to race your favorite cars across a laser-scanned replica of a brand new racetrack which many may never even be able to see in real life, there’s an even greater prize up for grabs for those who are looking for a sliver of immortality in the world of sim-racing: Winning the inaugural race. Such was the case during Week 3 of the 2015 V8 Supercars Americas series which, for the first time, ventured to into Monza, Italy to race at the fabled the 3.6 mile Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Named [...]
