Five for the Win in AOR Season 2 Opener

Written by JustinSutton - Wed, 01 Apr 2015 13:59:14 +0000

The Apex Online Racing League (commonly known as AOR) opened a new championship last season using the Star Mazda (AOR Pro Mazda Championship) which featured some fantastic racing week after week, and with a shake-up in the rules (and some changes to the car between seasons) the second season kicked off at Interlagos in Brazil for a 36 lap race.  The inaugural champion, Kerry Knowlden, couldn’t manage pole position though, as he lost out to new-comer (and only American in the league) Justin Brunner.  At the start, Brunner held his advantage into the first corner while Knowlden did the same with his teammate Phil Reid right behind him in third.  Knowlden didn’t wait long though, stealing the lead less than two minutes later at the start of Lap Two with [...]

Traino Trumps Michigan

Written by bradk12fan - Wed, 01 Apr 2015 13:32:28 +0000

For Season 2 of 2015, the IndyCar Oval Series and the IndyCar Road Series have joined together to create a combined series with six oval weeks and six road weeks, with the series alternating week-to week. Week One of the new 2015 Season 2 IndyCar Combined Series sent the series Michigan International Speedway. A total of 249 sim-racers took to the track in the Irish Hills throughout the week that saw aero-push, cautions, lapped traffic, relative newcomers, pit strategy, and tire wear emerge as the storylines. Brandon Trost (Pennsylvania) started on pole with Connor Cross (Ohio) on his outside. Matt Pawelski (Pennsylvania) occupied the second row Terry Matthiensen (California) while Brandon Traino (New Jersey) rounded-out the top five starting positions. The inside line had an excellent start as [...]

Road Warrior 12 Hours of Sebring

Written by DavidP - Tue, 31 Mar 2015 22:01:27 +0000

After a fiercely competitive iRacing Daytona 24 back in January the Road Warrior Endurance teams took to the track for the first ever iRaicng 12 Hours of Sebring. The race kicked off at 13:00 GMT on Saturday March 28th. At least two drivers had to get behind the wheel during the 12 hour event. For this round iRacing utilized the same class combinations from the Daytona 24. The fastest class was the Prototype category using the HPD ARX-01 P2 car. The GT category gave teams the choice of one of four GT3 cars (also utilized in the new iRacing Blancpain series): the BMW Z4 GT3, Ford GT GT3, McLaren MP4-12 C GT3, and RUF Track. Despite the race being half as long as Daytona it is not half the challenge [...]

Written by DavidP - Tue, 31 Mar 2015 15:54:46 +0000

A solid sim racer in both disciplines, iRacer Chuck Chambliss is a threat on any type of racetrack, oval or road. The 43 year old out of Hueytown, Alabama, has nearly 3600 races to his credit since joining iRacing back in May, 2008. Chambliss is primarily a road racer, with over 60% of his starts coming on the road courses of iRacing.  In 2250 road starts, Chambliss has visited victory circle 171 times and has nearly 100 top five finishes. Not that he’s exactly a slouch on the ovals: Exclusively turning left, Chambliss has 62 career victories and 376 top five finishes in 1265 starts. In addition, Chambliss is an iRacing champion, having won the championship in the Star Mazda series in his division in 2008 Season 3 and the [...]

Gooden’s Last Lap Glory

Written by camstark - Tue, 31 Mar 2015 14:41:17 +0000

Autódromo José Carlos Pace – host of the Brazilian Grand Prix – had the honour of welcoming the Pro Mazdas for what should prove to be another exciting season. The 4.309KM, 15 turn circuit would certainly make it an open opportunity for anyone to win considering the two vast straights where you could allow draft to play in to your hands. The tight infield section could be the creator of many issues in this race; not least with cold tires on Lap One! The pole position was taken by Mark Jarvis – last season’s fourth place finisher – who already looked as though he’s got his season off to an ideal start. Joining Jarvis on the front row was a fellow UK&I member: Jamie Fluke. Fluke by no means ‘Fluked’ [...]

The Championship Decider at Interlagos

Written by JustinSutton - Tue, 31 Mar 2015 14:02:19 +0000

The final round of the UK&I Skip Barber League’s first season of 2015 was at Interlagos for a championship deciding race.  With Sebastian Job and Tom Ward separated by just two points, the man who could finish the race ahead of the other would likely become the first champion of the year.  Job took pole with a 1:51.851, Ward sat in third, and Wojciech Swirydowicz sat between them.  On the word go all but one of the nearly three dozen Skippies shot off the line and accelerated toward Turn One.  Fahim Antoniades remained stationary on the grid and became an obstacle until he was struck at high speed and taken out of the race. Richard Avery went on the attack immediately from fifth position, going around the outside of Rob [...]

iRacing’s Dudes Abide

Written by DavidP - Mon, 30 Mar 2015 20:17:54 +0000

Never let it be said that the folks at iRacing lack for hands-on sim racing experience.  Most recent case in point:  the iRacing 12 Hours of Sebring, where iRacing staffers experienced the thrill of victory and the agony of P16. The thrill of victory went to Chris Lerch (vehicle dynamic engineer), Kevin Bobbitt (marketing director), Dan Garrison (software engineer) and teammate David Santora who wheeled the Lebowski Popsicle Ford GT to the GT3 Class win in a split that saw Cross Racing – as in Nim Cross (chief steward) along with his son Jeremy and brothers Jason and Brian – come home fifth in their RUF Track. Somewhat less successful were Randy Cross (principal software engineer), Shannon Whitmore (support & customer experience director) and Chris Weidner (lead testing coordinator) who [...]

From A Dig Motorsports’ “Tough Trucks” – The Paperclip!

Written by DavidP - Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:59:52 +0000

Nestled in the rolling foothills of southern Virginia lies the famous Martinsville Speedway.  Within the community of stock car auto racing, the half-mile speedway radiates a legendary mystique, all while fitting the definition of “historic” to a T.  The track was built over six decades ago in 1947, and remains the only track on the NASCAR schedule that was also raced-on in the sport’s inaugural season of 1948.  Whether it’s the winner polishing their coveted grandfather clock, or the spectators rifling through handfuls of famous red hot dogs while the whistle of the 4:30 locomotive yells through the valley, Martinsville Speedway is rich in tradition. The modern technology that makes iRacing and the Internet possible is nothing short of amazing.  What could be more amazing?  Well, a time machine, of [...]

De Jong, Radicals Online and Foracer Coanda Simsport Win at Sebring

Written by DavidP - Mon, 30 Mar 2015 14:51:15 +0000

A busy day of sim racing at Sebring International Raceway on Saturday saw Mitchell deJong capture Round Three of the iRacing World Championship Grand Prix Series even as Radicals Online (prototype) and Forarcer Coanda Simsport (GT3) motored to the class wins in the top split of the iRacing 12 Hours of Sebring. DeJong scored an impressive maiden iRacing World Championship Grand Prix Series win, starting from pole and leading 40 of 52 laps to best Aleksi Uusi-Jaakkola by 7.8s with Enzo Bonito coming home third ahead of four time world champion Greger Huttu.  In taking the win, deJong derailed Uusi-Jaakkola’s bid to capture a third straight win on the season and, in the process, vaulted into second place in the overall season standings.  Uusi-Jaakkola (140) still holds a healthy lead [...]

Majeski Battles To Irwindale Inner Victory

Written by MRolfe - Sun, 29 Mar 2015 00:33:30 +0000

On Thursday night, the RB Performance Super Late Model Series made their second trip of the season to the Irwindale Speedway, but this time they would run the Inner bullring configuration for a 125 lap feature event. Last week, the Sim Auto Racing Association‘s premiere division was at their largest track at the Milwaukee Mile, but the drivers would have to switch it up a bit as they battled it out on the smallest track on the schedule this week. In qualifying, it was Justin Brooks who picked up the pole for the race, with points leader Cody Kelley starting to his outside. At the drop of the green flag, Brooks and Kelley quickly fell in line in the first two spots, and while the field battled it out behind [...]
